Bill Nichol

Bill is a Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist with over 40 years of experience providing clinical care. He is originally from rural Manitoba and obtained his clinical training at the School of Prosthetics and Orthotics of Quebec and McGill University in Montreal, graduating from that program in 1978. Returning to Winnipeg, Bill completed his internship in Prosthetics at Deer Lodge Hospital and attained his Certification in Prosthetics in 1980. He then accepted an opportunity to move over to the Rehabilitation Centre for Children where he completed his internship in Orthotics and attained his second discipline Certification in Orthotics in 1982. Bill continued to work as a clinical Prosthetist and Orthotist at the Rehab Centre for Children and became director of that program in 1987. He continued in that capacity until 1994 at which time he left the Rehab Centre to open up a private clinical practice. Bill has enjoyed a successful private practice for 23 years, specializing primarily in pediatric Prosthetics, myoelectrics, and Orthotic treatments for neurological impairment, specifically in the area of spinal deformities.

In addition to his clinical practice, Bill has served in a number of capacities at both the provincial and national levels of our professional associations. Locally he has been a member of the Manitoba Orthotic and Prosthetic Association since returning to Winnipeg & has been involved with the executive, serving as president on several occasions. Bill has also been actively involved with our national organizations, serving on the board of directors of both the Canadian Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists as well as the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists where he served as national President for two terms. He has also participated as an examiner at the national certification exams on many occasions. Bill was awarded the credentials of Fellowship (FCBC) in 1997 for his outstanding contributions to the furtherance and promotion of the P&O Profession in Canada.

Bill closed his Prosthetics and Orthotics private practice at the end of June 2017 and is very pleased to have the opportunity to join WinPO as a clinical consultant.
